OILED METAL

1.First open an RGB mode image with white background colour. Type some text in black. The text should be big and bold.

2. Load this text layer as a selection i.e. ctrl+click on the layer to load it.
Make a new channel and fill this selection with white. Name this selection as "text".
Now delete the layer on which the text is written and deselect (ctrl+D).
Make a new layer called "Text". Fill this layer with white. Load the channel called "text".
Duplicate this channel.
Deselect and apply gaussian blur (filter>blur>gaussian blur) the duplicated channel with a radius of 2.
Load the channel called "text" and inverse the channel (ctrl+shift+i).
Fill it using black colour.
Inverse tha selection again and contract the selection by 2 pixels. Fill this selection with white.
Deselect the selection and apply a gaussian blur again with a radius of 0.5
This is how your channel should look at the end of this step.


3. Select the layer called "text" and apply the lighting effects as shown.


4. Load the channel called "text" and inverse the selection (ctrl+shift+i). Press the delete button and delete the section (make sure the background colour is white).
Now select all (ctrl+a) and copy the layer (ctrl+c). Make a new layer (layer>new layer) and set the following settings for it
  • name : text1
  • opacity : 75%
  • mode : overlay
  • group with previous layer
Load the "text" channel and paste whatever you have copied into the selection. (ctrl+v)
Apply the plastic wrap filter with the following specs.
  • Highlight strength : 15
  • Detail : 15
  • Smoothness : 10




5. Apply the colour levels (Image>Adjust>colour levels) with the foll. specs.
  • Shadow Levels: -24, 0, 26
  • Midtone Levels : -40, 0, 41
  • Highlight Levels : 2, -1, -12
  • with preserve Luminosity


6. Make a new adjustment layer (Layer>New>Adjustment Layer) with these specs.
  • Name : curves
  • Type : curves
  • opacity : 75%
  • Mode : Normal
  • Group with previous layer
Apply the curves as shown in the figure.


7.Select the layer called "text" and duplicate it ("text copy"). Select the layer "text" again and check mark the "preserve transparenct box". Fill this layer with black with preserve transparency.
Now uncheck the "preserve transparency" box of the "text" layer
Apply a gaussian blur of 7.3 or whatever radius suits you. It makes the text stand out! Offset this layer (filter>other>offset) by some amount for eg. 1 pixel horizontally and 1 pixel vertically. Fill mode : repeat
8. Select the curves mask layer.
Make a new layer (layer>new>layer) with these specs.
  • Name : motion
  • Opacity : 50%
  • Mode : overlay
  • Group with previous layer
  • Fill with overlay-neutral colour (50% gray)
Add noise with these settings
  • Amount : 999
  • Distribution : Gaussian
  • Monochromatic checked
Apply motion blur (filter>blur>motion blur) with these settings
  • Angle="0"
  • Distance : 75



9. Load the channel called "text" and contract the selection by 2 pixels or so
Add a layer mask to this layer (layer>add layer mask>reveal selection)
Select the layer with the mask and apply the mask. And voila you are done.....Flatten the image finally
